For those of you who might not know the story behind the famous Ultra Deep Field shot, a helpful video has been released.

The UDF picture does represent an amazing step for humanity. It is certainly eligible for the accolades heaped upon it by the narrator, who calls it, amongst other things, “The most important picture humanity has ever taken.”
And it was all done out of curiosity, there was nothing there to look for. Yet several now-useful techniques were pioneered, and this poster showed up on more college dorm room walls than you’d think.
